Telebehavioral Health

I am pleased to offer telebehavioral health services for those who might be unable to attend in person therapy sessions.  Telebehavioral health service is the practice of using telecommunication systems such as the telephone and Internet to administer clinical services. These types of services have been used for decades; however, with the convenience of the Internet, telebehavioral services have become more prominent.

Telebehavioral services are most often used for those who live in rural areas and unable to find services locally. Also, telebehavioral services are used for those who have difficulties attending sessions face-to-face or for those who are looking for a clinician with a specific specialty, which is not locally available to them. Everyone’s situation is unique, so I spend time discussing the best option for you.

Who is best served by telebehavioral health services?

Generally, most people can benefit from therapy through online or telephone services.  Research has shown that telebehavioral services are often just as effective as in person sessions. However, there are some conditions in which distance therapy may not be the best means of working together. I conduct a thorough assessment with anyone desiring online services to make sure it is the most appropriate fit.

What conditions can be treated long distance?

Research has shown many struggles can be treated long distance. Some conditions include depression, anxiety, eating disorders and PTSD.

My services

I provide telebehavioral health services primarily through online video conferencing and the telephone.  My preference is to conduct sessions through the video conferencing because it gives me the ability to connect more with individuals. Also, with today’s video conferencing services, online therapy can feel very similar to sitting in the office.

How it works?

I use a HIPAA compliant online teleconferencing software. This is free for you to use, and I will send you all the information needed prior to the session. For online sessions, you will need a computer, smart phone or tablet with a camera and microphone. You will also need access to high-speed/broadband Internet service. It is important to check with your service provider to make sure you are aware if there are any fees for excessive data usage since videoconferencing can have similar data usage to using a streaming video services such as Hulu or Netflix for the duration of the videoconferencing session. Often, people will use their cell phone earbuds or a Bluetooth headset because these have a microphone built in to the headphones (and provide greater privacy than using their device’s speakers). For telephone sessions, you will only need a telephone with clear service.
